It emerged recently that star of Mr. Robot and Bohemian Rhapsody Rami Malek will star as the villain in the upcoming James Bond film ‘. You might also know him as the pharaoh from the Night at the Museum Films. Malek will take on the role of the yet unnamed villain described as being ‘mysterious with a dangerous new technology’. Nothing particularly new there so.

The movie will be Daniel Craig’s last installment and the internet is rife with rumours of who replace him. Irish actor and Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy has been mentioned while Tom Hiddleston aka Loki, Idris Elba (The Wire, Luther) and Game of Thrones star Richard Madden have been quoted as being possible candidates to take on the role.

Malek may not be the classic villain that Christoph Waltz or Javier Bardem were. For one thing hes young and we perhaps don’t see young actors play villains as much as we should. However, I think his youth is precisely the reason why he’s going to be great. In Bond 25 we are going to have an ageing James Bond whose days of fighting are nearing an end. Malek’s character, although vague at this point in time will offer a youthful threat. Hes also got those cold eyes and penetrating stare that do provide a sort of sinister aspect to his character. I think we’ve had enough of the unrealistic older villian with a British accent and a really menacing laugh. Malek is a villain more befitting the modern world and should be refreshing change.

It’s not clear yet whether Ramis going to be using his normal American accent or his very competent British one. It would be fantastic if he just spoke like Freddie Mercury for the film but I find that kinda hard to believe unfortunately. Lea Seydoux. Ben Whishaw. Naomi Harris and Ralph Fiennes will be reprising their roles while star of the Hunger Games films Jeffrey Wright will be playing Felix Leitner. Judging by the cast alone, it’s going to be an epic!

Do you think Malek has what it takes to play a Bond villain?
