It was a bad weekend for Irish rugby as Ireland were hammered 57-15 by England at Twickenham. Bundee Aki and Jordan Larmour scored tries for Ireland but it was a dominant England performance that should be concerning ahead of the World Cup. Joe Schmidt side will need a massive improvement ahead of the opening fixture against Scotland on the 22nd of September.

There was some surprising results in the weekends premier league fixtures with Crystal Palace beating Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford. Roy Hogdsons side had just 1 point from their opening 2 games and Jordan Ayews opener was also their first goal of the season. Newcastle also came up with a shock result after a disappointing start to the season, beating Spurs 1-0 at White Hart Lane with new signing Joelington scoring the only goal of the game. Liverpool beat Arsenal in the game of the weekend with goals from Joel Matip and a double from Mohamed Salah including a penalty for a David Luiz shirt pull. Lucas Torreira scored a consolation for Arsenal late on. The Gunners had their chances throughout the game with new signing Nicolas Pepe spurning a good chance to put them 1-0 up. Elsewhere Aston Villa got their first points of the season, beating Everton 2-0 on Friday night, Chelsea won 3-2 at Norwich, West Ham beat struggling Watford 3-1, Leicester won 2-1 at newly promoted Sheffield United, Southamton beat 10 man Brighton 2-0, Wolves equalised late on to draw 1-1 with Burnley and Manchester City beat Bournemouth 3-1.

Last night, Dundalk beat UCD 3-0 in the Airtricity League Premier Division thanks to a double from Michael Duffy and a goal from Patrick Hoban.
