It’s something that most students have to do at some point in their lives. Lets just say its not much fun and i’m glad to finally to have left the industry after nearly three years. I sympathize with all of you still suffering out there. Here’s just a few of the most annoying things about the job.

The Messy Customer

You’ve just tidied your section and its perfect. Not an inch out of place. You think about how you’re going to spend the rest of your day safe in the knowledge that your section is good. Then some weapon decides they want the item at the very back of the shelf and instead of neatly shifting the stuff in front to the side, they decide to unleash hell and make it look like world war 3 just took place in your section. Thanks a lot Susan.

The Angry Customer

I completely understand that everyone has had a bad day. Its part and parcel of life but does that give you the right to take it out on the poor unfortunate soul working in the shop?Nothing is ever their fault and you can’t do anything right. You try to be reasonable but they have none of that and continue with their stubborn stupidity (I know i’m letting steam off a little bit here). Of course it’s your fault that some fat cat way above your rank decided to implement the new set of shop policies.

The one that never says anything

‘Hello sir, how are you’- Dead Silence. No problem, I was just talking to myself. Wasn’t expecting you to respond like a decent human being or anything. No effort to interact with you whatsoever. To them you’re just a means of them attaining their new merchandise and you’re not worthy of their recognition. Not even a muffled thank you. It makes me worry for humanity it really does.

The ones that are there till after closing time

Its 10 past six and there’s still that one customer browsing casually. The lights are off and everyone is tidying. Either they are completely oblivious to their surroundings or they are just being a prick. Meanwhile you have to wait until they finish shopping  piss off until you can go home. There’s a special place in hell reserved for these kind of people.

Are you looking to get out of a dead end retail job? Want a job where you can better use your skills? Well we might have something just for you. We are looking for fun, chatty and outgoing promotional reps to join our team. You can send applications to admin@generationy.ie if you think you have what it takes!
