This year’s National Student Media Awards take place on Thursday April 11th, and recognise the huge amount of talent in the Irish student media industry. We’re delighted to announce that The Sunday World are supporting us this year by sponsoring the category of ‘Journalist of the Year – National Media’.

This category represents students whose work has been published in the national press during the academic year. Many of our entrants will be pursuing careers in the industry, so the awards generally – including this category – are a fantastic way to showcase their work to industry professionals.

The Sunday World was first published in 1973 and was Ireland’s first tabloid newspaper at the time. Since then, it has launched Northern Irish and British editions, and is still notable for being an Irish paper with an English edition.

As part of its Irish background, writers for the Sunday World have included Paul McGrath, Kevin Moran, Amanda Brunker, and Daniel O’Donnell. The paper also hosts a number of competitions and special offers for Irish readers, which particularly appeal to younger readers!
