The 2019 National Student Media Awards take place on April 11th, and recognise the amazing talent in the Irish student media industry. We’re delighted that so many existing publications and media companies support and sponsor the awards. This includes The Herald, who are kindly and proudly sponsoring the category for ‘Features Writer of the Year – News and Politics’.

First published in 1891, The Herald has undergone a number of changes as the industry evolved. It changed from a broadsheet to tabloid in 1982, upgraded from monochrome to colour in 2000, renamed itself and switched to a morning schedule in 2013, and most recently its newsroom merged with that of the Sunday World in 2017.

The Herald website is a fantastic collection of articles, with national, international, and local news all presented. There are also sections for sports, Dublin lifestyle and entertainment, and a lively Opinions section, which gathers a large amount of public interaction.

The paper’s Facebook and Twitter pages also perform well, and appeal to a large and varied audience. The sense of community around Dublin and Ireland is a particular highlight, and definitely appeals to students living or studying in the capital!
