In the last week or so, it has been reported that undefeated boxer, Floyd Mayweather, will apply for an MMA license.

This isn’t just a rumour floating around the internet, Mayweather himself has addressed the claims.

“Eventually, we’re gonna apply for the license and hopefully we can fight,” Mayweather told TMZ Sports. “Even if it takes six to eight months, whatever it takes, we want to make sure everything is done correctly and everything is done the right way.”

Now to be honest, this seems like bullshit from the 41-year-old boxer, who came out of retirement last year to fight UFC champion Conor McGregor. It would be extremely surprising if we ever see Mayweather compete in the octagon. It is hard to even imagine! The UFC has the best MMA fighters in the world in its organization, so for Floyd to step in with one of them would be disastrous.

The talks of a Mayweather and McGregor rematch are laughable. It wouldn’t even be funny how badly Conor would beat him. McGregor would have multiple choices in how to finish it within the first 30 seconds. He could be sound and just keep it going longer just for the fans who will have to pay extortionate amounts of money to see this shitshow. In their boxing match last august, Punches were the only way to win the fight. Mayweather must realise that there are plenty of ways to get finished in MMA, whether it be through, punches, kicks, knees or submissions.

It would be an absolutely insane move for Floyd to move from MMA to boxing, especially at 41 years old. His hands have been broken multiple times over the course of his career, so that would hardly help his case, especially since that is his most dangerous weapon if he is ever to step into an MMA ring.

The more likely case is that he is just trolling us all. He has no intention to fight in MMA because he knows he will be destroyed. This is just another ploy to keep his name in everyone’s mouth because that is what drives him. A previous example of this was the build up to fighting McGregor, which went on for nearly a year and a half before it eventually materialized. His incredibly boring fight with Manny Pacquaio came 7 or 8 years later than it should have too. However, Both of these fights did eventually happen though, which is one of the reasons why we shouldn’t completely rule Floyd fighting in the UFC.

One way that Mayweather could fight in MMA and not look completely foolish is if he fights an amateur fighter who the UFC bring in. They could also match him up against a man who came from an even lesser position, former WWE wrestler CM Punk. This would probably be the best move for Mayweather as CM Punk is a well-known name in the wrestling world and a big draw for the UFC.

CM Punk has also had one fight already back in 2016. This would be one of the strangest match ups ever made but at the same time, it is bound to get huge attention. Many will see it as a joke fight but they will tune in all the same. If UFC president Dana White can somehow get this fight together, it would surely be one of the biggest in MMA history.

This should also interest Mayweather because he could definitely win this fight. He also has nothing to lose, His 50-0 boxing record will remain intact. If he loses he can say at least he had the balls to give it a go. It is basically a win-win from his standpoint. It is more the fact that he will more than likely get embarassed in front of millions of people, which would bruise his ego massively is the one negative from his point of view.

At the end of the day, money talks. The UFC must offer him an unbelievable amount of money to get Floyd into their world. As the saying goes however, everyone has a price!
