The Dead Weather has released a music video for their new single Impossible Winner.

The band consists of Alison Mosshart of The Kills, Jack White of The White Stripes, Dean Fertita of Queens of the Stone Age and Jack Lawrence of The Greenhorns. Their debut album Horehound was released in 2009 and entered the Billboard 200 album chart at number 6. Impossible Winner is the band’s first release since their third album Dodge and Burn which was released last September.

The new video comes after the band released a series of cryptic short clips throughout late January on their Youtube channel.

The video features the band in a sort of nightmarish scenario; locked up in cages aboard some kind of train carriage. Vocalist Alison Mosshart is half buried in a pile of dirt, while Jack White furiously taps away on his typewriter, sprouting multiple limbs as he does so. Whenever the prisoners make too much of a ruckus they are stopped by a couple of terrifying wardens and a man whose face is engulfed by a giant mouth.

The song itself is excellent, brilliant performances by all members are complimented by beautiful orchestral elements. Alison Mosshart delivers a fantastic vocal performance while Jack White showcases his skills as a drummer.

It’s rare that we see a band challenge us with its music videos, the imagery in Impossible Winner more bizarrely disturbing than any TV show or movie of recent memory.
