Whilst the summer is now behind us, it isn’t time yet for our hats and gloves. Dressing for the awkward transition into the Irish autumn can be hard and unpredictable. Whether it’s hot, cold, sunny, raining, or all of the above at once, here’s a guide to the best, multi-functional pieces to have during this transitional period!
Light Trench Coats
We’ve seen a rise of the funnel-neck trench coat recently. It’s chic, it’s different and it’s absolutely perfect for the “I have nothing to wear” days. A light trench coat is perfect for this time of year, you don’t want to be sweating, but of course, you can’t go anywhere in Ireland without bringing a coat! One day it can cover up the three layers you have hiding underneath to fight the cold. But the next, it can stay unbuttoned, untied and act as a light outer-layer on those warmer autumnal days.
Neck Scarves
Another trend that’s been all over the runway. You don’t want to take out that big, wool scarf just yet. These silk and satin neck scarves are cute, stylish and functional. They’re the perfect accessory to transition into scarf season, without having to worry about overheating in your fluffy, winter scarf.
Ballet Flats
You probably know that the ‘ballet core’ trend was massive earlier this year. However, these shoes aren’t going anywhere. You’re not in those bright, summer sandals anymore, but it isn’t quite time for the black and brown boots to make their return. Solution? Ballet flats. It doesn’t matter whether you’re wearing jeans, a skirt or a dress, they’ll go with everything in your wardrobe (sounds like that makes them an essential to me). Comfortable, chic and often coming in warmer shades, ballet flats really are the perfect transitional footwear choice.
Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts are your best friend, they work all year long. That’s what makes them a transitional season essential. You don’t need tights to wear a skirt, with a maxi skirt, your legs are covered and your outfit’s in full flow. It has to be the one item that’s the perfect blend of whimsy and functionality. On a warm day, just pair with a t-shirt, or on those chillier mornings, throw on a warm jumper. They also look fabulous with a cute pair of ballet flats, just saying!
It’s important to have pieces that you can mix and match with each other. The Irish weather is unpredictable, so having a variety of ways to wear certain pieces is vital for us. These pieces make it easy to dress accordingly and stay stylish!
