The National Student Media Awards 2026 are proud to welcome Griffith College as an official category sponsor, sponsoring the “Features Writer of the Year: News & Current Affairs” award.

Griffith College, one of Ireland’s leading independent third-level institutions with campuses in Dublin, Cork and Limerick, has a long-standing commitment to media and journalism education, including undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in journalism, digital communication and media studies.

This year’s National Student Media Awards will take place in April 2026, celebrating excellence across student journalism, broadcasting, publishing, and digital media. The Features Writer of the Year: News & Current Affairs category recognises outstanding written work that demonstrates depth, insight and impact in reporting on current events and news topics.

Past recipients of this award include talented student journalists from across Irish higher-education institutions, underlining its prestige and influence on early media careers.

Griffith College enjoyed notable success at last year’s awards, with MA in Journalism & Digital Communications graduate Bartira Augelli winning both Journalist of the Year – National Media and the EPA Award for Journalism Relating to Health.

The partnership continues Griffith College’s ongoing involvement with the SMEDIAs and reflects its dedication to nurturing the next generation of journalists and storytellers in Ireland.

Applications close March 16th.
