Recently, there has been discussion online debating if Gen Z are getting boring. With bars closing and the cost of living rising, nights out are becoming less frequent. To older generations, Gen Z may appear as more introverted or possibly even boring, but is this really the case?
There is no doubt that drinking alcohol and going on nights out remain big features of the college experience, but the difference now is that it doesn’t apply to all. Sure, there was never a time where EVERY student drank, but now sobriety is becoming a lot more socially acceptable, and by some it is even encouraged.
Even if sobriety is becoming more popular, the word boring still doesn’t seem fitting for the newer generations. Hobbies like journalling, hot girl walks, yoga and similar activities are gaining popularity but that is not to say excitement is nowhere to be seen.
One activity that is still deeply important to young people is attending concerts. The Ticketmaster wars that are becoming so common, even for small acts, are evidence of this. Another interest that Gen Z prides themselves on is travelling. Whether it’s interrailing, going on a J1, or even an overpriced city break, Gen Z will have always a trip booked.
As well at this eagerness for new experiences, Gen Z are big on their hobby era! From Lego building to content creation, to sport and video games. Many young people even in their twenties place significant importance on their hobbies.
So no, maybe not every young person is out clubbing now, maybe some are inside crocheting. But whether you’re spending every night on Camden Street, or in bed reading, the key is to spend your twenties however you want.
