We are nearing the end of the group stages of the 2018 World Cup. Spain, Russia, Uruguay and Portugal have all made it to the last 16 of this years tournament.

Uruguay have had a perfect start to the competition, with 3 wins, 5 goals scored and 0 goals conceded. With a convincing 3-0 win over Russia, Uruguay will have gained a huge amount of confidence after beating the hosts.

Russia on the other hand will be dissappointed with the result last night, having won their first two matches in a dominant fashion.

Portugal and Spain progress in Group B, with Iran and Morrocco falling short. Spain top the group after having scored the most goals, with Portugal dropping to second after their 1-1 draw with Iran last night. Ronaldo broke another record last night, but it is one he would rather forget: The first Portugal Player ever to miss a penalty in a World Cup.

So the next stage sees Portugal play Uruguay and Russia against Spain, two very interesting games where it will be tough to predict the winners. If I were to predict the result, I think that we will see Spain and Portugal progress through the quarters, but it wont be easy for them. Uruguay and Russia are both decent teams and as underdogs, will have nothing to lose.

I think after Englands dominant display over footballing titans Panama, they will easily win this years world cup. You can almost hear the English fans from here chanting “It’s coming home”. They do have a decent side in fairness, but they scraped a win against Tunisia, and if they didnt score at least 3 against Panama, it would have been embarrassing. They come up against Belgium next which will really test the character of this England team. I think a quality team like Belgium will run through England in the final game, which will slightly dampen the hype slowly building as the tournament goes on.
