Believe it or not, you are most likely committing at least one of these beauty crimes every day! But don’t fret – you can banish these bad habits with a few beauty tips that will leave your skin in tip-top shape in no time.

1. Stop the spot-busting

Acne-prone skin is a nightmare for any beauty devotee, so it’s no wonder the urge to squeeze zits and poke at blemishes is so strong in the quest for clear skin! We understand that these guys are super gross and hella annoying, but we can’t stress enough how skin-damaging picking spots really are. The more you go at them, the more germs you are spreading to clearer areas of your skin  and the more likely you will end up with scarring that won’t disappear overnight. So the next time you consider busting a juicy pimple – remember it’s not worth it in the long run, hun!

 2.  Sleeping in Makeup

You don’t need to tell us how common sleeping in makeup actually is – even Kim Kardashian West admitted to this skin sin – but it’s also really bad for your pores. Every time you go to sleep, you are allowing your skin to get ready for the next day by regenerating and detoxing any excess skin cells. Leaving makeup on will only result in more break-outs, dirty pillows and a blotchy complexion. Do you really want to consider the number of bacteria building up in your pores right now by not allowing your skin to breathe and regenerate overnight? Didn’t think so.

3. Not drinking enough water

If you find that your skin is especially dry or sensitive this time of year, then switch to drinking 1.5 to 2 litres per day.  I know it sounds like a lot but this tip is so important. Your body is made up of 60% water, which means you need a lot of H20 to keep it functioning normally. Given your skin is the biggest organ in your body it is no wonder water plays such a huge part in keeping it healthy. Drinking a glass of water every few hours aids skin regeneration, the removal of toxins and keeps cells well-lubricated. Keep in mind that sugary drinks and alcohol do not count!

4. On and off skincare

If there’s one skin sin that we are all guilty of, it has to be trying a skincare routine for a few days and then forgetting about it. Just like brushing your hair, your skin also needs a bit of daily pampering and this does not mean an easy wash of a face wipe. Start prepping your skin daily with a cleanser, toner and moisturiser suitable to your individual skin type. We realise it takes a few weeks to get into the swing of these sort of things, so please don’t tap out as soon as you forget a step or two.

 5. Not wearing sunscreen

Mirror, mirror on the wall. Is this the deadliest skin sin of them all? Not wearing enough sunscreen when out in the sun? Hardly!  But even in the depths of winter, you need to use SPF. Nowadays, SPF can be found a range of face creams and foundation, so it’s easy to find a suitable fit! Just remember that when it comes to the summer months you’ll need to wear a small bit more. Don’t use anything less than SPF 30 in the summer and SPF 15 in the winter. Make sure to top up regularly when sunbathing as those harsh summer rays will get you once you are out and about. You’ll thank us one day, we promise!
