The top floor of RTÉ headquarters announced this morning that after a series of monumental mess ups regarding its handling of Rory O’Neill’s comments on the Saturday Night Show a few weeks ago, RTÉ will now show that they are ‘cool’ with homosexuality and has ordered their highest paid star to kiss a man on The Late Late Show tonight.

It is unknown as of yet who the man Tubridywill be kissing.  Speculation is rife throughout the RTÉ canteen though and Ireland’s favourite bookmaker, Paddy Power, has given odds on who it might be:

  • Marty Whelan: 2/1
  • Bryan Dobson: 2/1
  • Gay Byrne: 10/3
  • Eamon Dunphy: 4/1
  • Enda Kenny: 150/1
  • Dustin: 325/1

Veteran viewers of the state broadcaster might recall that this is not the first time that a kiss between two members of the same sex has rocked the broadcaster. Fair City has dabbled in the area back in 1996 but failed to go through with its plans.

“In 1996, three years after homosexuality was decriminalised in Ireland, male characters Eoghan and Liam moved in for a clinch – only to be interrupted. It would have been the first gay kiss on Irish television”

Be sure to tune in tonight as it will unlikely to be put on the RTÉ Player due to RTÉ’s plan to put the moment on DVD in time for the Christmas sales next year.
