A 39-year-old firing range instructor was accidentally shot dead by a 9-year-old girl in Arizona on Monday
Charles Vacca took a bullet to the head, while teaching the child to fire a sub-machine gun, when the Uzu recoiled over her shoulder. The incident took place at the Bullets and Burgers shooting range in Arizona, which allows children aged 8-17 to fire weapons, provided they’re accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Footage of this incident is widely available on-line and can be watched below at your own discretion. While no graphic images can be seen, the deathly shot can be heard in the last seconds of the video, which some readers may find distressing.
Tragic as this tale is, hopefully an important lesson will be learned from this event… Children should never be permitted to operate firearms, regardless of what precautions are put in place. We had assumed that that was already a given, but apparently the message needs to be reiterated.
