It’s been a long weekend and the our Sports schedule is starting to fill up with the Premier League returning this weekend while the Rugby world cup begins in October.

We’ll start with the GAA for a change and with the Quarter Finals of the All Ireland Football Championships to be specific. Mayo, Kerry, Roscommon and Dublin overcame Donegal, Meath, Cork and Tyrone respectively to reach the semi finals. In Camogie, Galway beat Waterford by 2 goals and 16 points to 2 goals and 8 points while Tipperary edged past Limerick by a goal and 9 points to a goal and 5 points.

In the returning English Championship there were wins for QPR, Swansea and Birmingham while all three relegated teams from last seasons premier league suffered defeats with Cardiff losing 3-2 away to Wigan, promotion favourites Fulham falling to a surprise 1-0 defeat at Barnsley while Huddersfield lost 2-1 at home to Phillipe Cocu’s Derby. Speaking of Derby, former Everton and Manchester United Striker Wayne Rooney has completed a move to Pride Park where he’ll take up the role of player-coach.

In Golf, J.T Poston won the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro. The American golfer finished with 22 under par and takes home prize money of $1,116,000. Ireland’ Seamus Power finished with 7 under par.

Lastly, In F1 Lewis Hamilton fended off Max Verstrappen to win the Hungarian GP and added to his already illustrious career.
