Let’s be honest Christmas fashion can often be a little jarring with ugly Christmas jumpers and lots of tinsel. But when done right, Christmas fashion can be both festive and glamorous. Here is a list of the best Christmas outfits from some of my personal favourite movies to help inspire you this season.
- The Haynes Sisters- White Christmas

While some will call White Christmas just a movie that takes place around Christmas and not actually a Christmas movie, to me the final look of Betty and Judy Haynes while singing White Christmas is the epitome of Christmas. The pair’s red and white dresses and matching white accessories are the pinnacle of festive dressing.
- Martha May Whovier- The Grinch

It’s hard to pick just one outfit from Martha May as she gave us look after iconic look throughout the movie. From hanging Christmas lights to waiting for the crowning of the Christmas Cheermeister Martha May showed us how to dress festive without being tacky.
- Mary Bailey- It’s a Wonderful Life

While George spent his Christmas Eve with Clarence, Mary spent her evening at home decorating as the perfect picture of elegance that shines through in both the black and white and the remastered coloured version.
- Cindy Lou Who- The Grinch

I love The Grinch so much I had to include the movie twice. As Cindy Lou spends the movie searching for the meaning of Christmas and finding the good in the grinch she also gives picture perfect Christmas looks in every situation from visiting the grinch on Mount Crumpet to being sorted and wrapped with the post.
- James- The Snowman

The Snowman was one of my favourite Christmas movies as a child and the song ‘Walking in the Air’ still makes me feel nostalgic. James’ outfit captures some of the best parts of Christmas: staying in pajamas. Christmas pajamas are an essential part of the festive period…
- Bridget Jones- Bridget Jones’ Diary

Which leads on perfectly to this next outfit. Bridget Jones’ penguin pajamas. For inspiration on what to wear from Christmas Day to New Years we need look no further than Bridget Jones. It’s the perfect outfit to watch movies and finish eating all the leftovers in.
- Kevin McCallister- Home Alone

For those who don’t like wearing dresses or too much glitter at Christmas, Kevin McCallister has the perfect outfit inspiration. His chunky red jumper and cargo trousers will take you from any situation from protecting your house from burglars to navigating family dinners.
- Elf

Of course it wouldn’t be Christmas without Elf, my absolute favourite Christmas movie. Both Buddy and Jovie’s costumes give us the exact right amount of Christmas tackiness that makes for the perfect Christmas inspiration (because let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good ugly Christmas jumper?) and show that head to toe costumes don’t have to be kitschy.
