The Student Media Awards will continue it’s tradition of having a stellar MC at the helm this year, with Oliver Callan hosting the Smedias 2015.

Throughout the last decade Callan has cemented himself as one of the country’s finest comedic talents, with his razor sharp satire and impressions of just about every notable Irish personality making him a fixture of Irish television and radio.

Callan is from Inniskeen in County Monaghan. He grew up on a farm and has a degree in journalism from Dublin City University. After initially working as a newsreader on Today FM where he performed on Gift Grub as Enda Kenny, Callan later began to perform sketches on The Gerry Ryan Show on RTÉ 2fm . He wrote and produced almost 900 Nob Nation sketches on his own for the Gerry Ryan Show over three years.

Callans peerless ability to stay current with his topical brand of comedy and spot-on impersonations has seen his Callan’s Kicks on RTÉ Radio 1 described by The Sunday Independent as “the best comedy show the national broadcaster has ever produced”. The show has since transferred to television and been met with both critical acclaim and top viewer ratings.

His assured policy of sparing no public figures from his sledgehammer sensibilities has courted controversy as well as praise – making him the ideal host for The Smedias 2015.

This is a major coup for this years awards show and will give everyone lucky enough to be there a fantastic nights entertainment.

(It’s basically getting umpteen celebrities to host for the price of one . We love impressionists)

We’ve been scouring YouTube trying to find the best examples of his work – but there’s just too much great stuff to choose from.  But anyway, here’s a little taste nonetheless…

Oh it’s going to be cracking night….
