84 third level students in Limerick have had their SUSI grants withdrawn. This news come from political party Aontú on the back of an FOI request on SUSI grants by the party.

‘(Students) have planned their financing for the year on that grant. That grant has been withdrawn from them’, Eric Nelligan of the Aontú Limerick Branch.

‘These students last August were told that they were getting a grant around €2000/€3000 depending on their circumstances. Since college started in the middle of September, that grant has been withdrawn. So as you can imagine, that’s very challenging.’

Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) is Ireland’s national awarding authority for all further and higher education grants. The grant is offered to eligible students, from school leavers to mature students returning to education, in approved full time third level courses.
