The European Commission is a valued partner at The National Student Media Awards and we delighted that they sponsor the ‘European Commission Award for Journalism relating to European Issues’.

This award will be given to the student who has written and published the best article relating to EU affairs. The winner of this prize will receive an award and a €1,000 prize that has been very generously donated by the European Commission. The winner will also have their article published in either a regional or online publication.

The European Commission helps shape the EU’s overall strategy, propose new EU laws and policies, monitors their implementation and manages the EU budget. It also plays a significant role in supporting international development and delivering aid.

They also help students! Regulations introduced by the EU means that students are in a position to work fair, part-time hours that suit them, preventing employers from taking advantage of them.

It is also illegal for employers to dismiss a worker from transferring from full to part-time and vice-versa.

We are delighted that the European Commission sponsors this award it shows their support for students reporting European affairs.
