2020 is the first year of the “Short Form Bilingual Video” award at the National Student Media Awards, and TG4 BLOC is helping to promote and commission vloggers and content creators all around Ireland.
The social hub of TG4, BLOC is an Irish language multi-social media platform video hub for 18-35-year olds. BLOC makes new edgy, thought-provoking Irish language content with young adults for young adults.
To date BLOC has scouted, trained and commissioned over 50 new young Irish language content creators (BLOCadóirí) and their content continues to reach thousands of people each week via BLOC’s Facebook, Twitter, IGTV, Instagram, YouTube & Twitch channels. It delivers audio-visual content (vlogs) on topics such as gaming, short films, spoken word, film reviews, travel and many more.
As part of Teilifís na Gaeilge, TG4 is an independent television channel that is dedicate to broadcasting news, sports and programs in the Irish language. Annually, TG4 invests €20m into original Irish progamming.
It’s this dedication to producing high quality and interesting programs in Irish, TG4 has won various awards both in Ireland and from around the world. In 2017, Rock Ros Muc won Best Feature Documentary in the Boston Irish Film Festival and was also longlisted for the 2018 Oscars.
