It was Trinity College student Sam Cox who emerged victorious in the SFI Science Writer of the Year at the Smedias. Sam is a psychology student at Trinity and is the Features Editor for Trinity News as well as the Dublin InQuirer. We would like to congratulate Sam for his fantastic achievement.

Judges were looking for a clear understanding of the topic they were writing about and also an ability to communicate this understanding to the reader and we commend Sam for doing just this.

The Science Foundation of Ireland ‘funds orientated basic and applied research in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics’. They support enterprise and industry and try to help spread important knowledge and information. This includes supporting young journalists so we feel that they were an appropriate sponsor for this particular award.

We would like to thank the SFI for their work across the board and for sponsoring our award.
