This Friday marks another international school strike in name of climate action. Started by Swedish youth activist Greta Thunberg, the movement has spread like wildfire across the globe. If you are worried about the future of our planet, and want to urge the government to take action, here’s all you need to know.

Dublin City

When and where will the strike take place?

12:00pm: Protesters will be meeting at the Custom House on Custom House Quay

12:30pm: The march will begin from the Customs House towards Merrion Square via Pearse St

1:00pm: Rally takes place at Merrion Square near the Department of the Taoiseach

If you’re based in Trinity College, the Environmental Society are running a poster-making party today at 7pm!

If you’re out in UCD, the SU are giving organising a bus from campus to the strike at 11:15am. Find out more by following the link to the event page here. There is also a poster-making event today at 4pm!

DCU students can attend a climate vigil on campus to mark the strike on the day. Students and staff are asked to meet at the DCU sign on the entrance to St Patrick’s Campus at 12.15pm and on the mall outside the U building at the Glasnevin campus at 1pm for the event.

Cork City

When and where will the strike take place?

12:00pm: Protesters will gather on Grand Parade Street

UCC will hold a campus vigil for those who can’t attent the strike on the Quad 11:30am.

If you want to link up with fellow green activists on campus before the strike, UCC Envirosoc, UCC Students’ Union and Extinction Rebellion UCC will be meeting at 11:00am at the Amphitheatre and heading to the strike from there. Here’s the event for more information.

Galway City

When and where will the strike take place?

1:00pm: A demonstration takes place in Eyre Square until 4pm. More information here.

Extinction Rebellion NUIG will be meeting on campus at Áras na Mac Léinn for 12:30pm to walk to the demonstration together.

NUIG will also be holding a lecture entitled “Climate Justice: Whose Responsibility is it Anyway?” next Monday at 6pm in the Aula Maxima. The talk will include Green Party candidate Saoirse McHugh among other notable climate activists. More information here.

Limerick City

When and where will the strike take place?

1:00pm: March will start at Arthur’s Quay Park. It will be finishing up at City Hall

Tralee, Co. Kerry

When and where will the strike take place?

9:00am: Demonstrators will be meeting at County Buildings, Ratass and protesting until 2:00pm.

When and where will the strike take place?

3:00pm: Protest begins outside the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, Marine Road.

Members of the Dun Laoghaire Climate Action Group will be meeting at the People’s Park at 11:00am to travel into the main Dublin strike. They will be getting the DART at 11:30am.

Sligo

Kilkenny Town

2:00pm: Protest begins at Town Hall
