One of the biggest awards of the evening, the ‘Newspaper of the Year’ award is a testament to the hard work and cooperation of the entire editorial team of all those nominated. It is only fitting that the Irish Times, Ireland’s newspaper of record, has sponsored this award since its inception in 2001.

Established in 1859, the Irish Times has been dedicated to producing the highest quality of journalism possible, providing a platform for informed public debate. The broadsheet newspaper met advancements in technology and media delivery head on, tailoring stories to best utilise individual platforms for the maximum engagement with its readers.

With over 650,000 daily readers, the Irish Times is one of few news organisations to offer free access to all its stories to students in both second and third level.

The ‘Student Hub’ section regularly publishes stories written by students, concerning breaking news on university and college campuses from the reporters that are closest to the developments.

Last year’s winners were Student Independent News from NUI Galway and we are thrilled to see this newspaper encourage the future of journalism in Ireland.
