SMEDIAS 2019 – How To Enter
As 2019 marches on, the opening date for applications for the 2019 Smedia awards is rapidly approaching!
If you’re in any way immersed in the world of student media, whether it is through journalism, radio, film/T.V, photography or anything in between, you’ll have the chance to apply and win one of the coveted 34 awards up for grabs on the night.
This year, we can announce that applications will officially open on the 1st of March. In the meantime, please pre-register your interest to keep up-to-date regarding your category (or categories) of choice by following the link here.
You will have exactly two weeks to get your applications in before they close at 5pm on the 7thth of March.
As always, we strive to make the application process as simple as possible for you. Therefore, you will be able to enter the majority of our categories online.
You will only need to post or drop in your entries into our office (Generation Y, 177 Rathmines Road Lower, Rathmines, Dublin 6) for the following categories:
- Newspaper Of The Year
- Editor Of The Year
- Magazine Of The Year
- Small College Or Society Publication Of The Year
- Layout and Design of The Year
Photography categories can be entered through email and the remaining categories can be entered through our online application form. The full details of how to enter each category is available on the individual category pages, which can be accessed through the Oxygen Smedia’s homepage.
The fee per entry, per category is €15 for the first submission. So if you, or your group, enter one category the cost is €15. If you, or your group, enter one or more categories, you/your group must pay €10 per additional entry. (For example, one submission is €15, two submissions is €25, three submissions is €35, etc.)
We understand that some students may be in a position where they wish to enter but aren’t in a position to pay for your entry. If that’s the case do not hesitate to contact us at email@example.com.
All online entries can be done via Paypal (you do not need your own Paypal account to do this though), via debit or credit card, or a postal order/cash can be delivered to our address.
Please note the following details for entering each of the following sub-categories.
This year, journalism categories (excluding the ones mentioned above) can be entered through our online application form.
Please note that all files attached must be in PDF format. Any files attached that are not in this format will not be considered.
You can either send in scanned copies of physical articles, or screenshots of any online articles.
All entries must have a by-line with the participant’s name visible, along with the date and time the article was published.
This year, entries for all photography categories must be accompanied with an application form, which can be found on each category page,
Entrants must download this, fill in the relevant details and email it to ‘firstname.lastname@example.org’ along with the three photographs that are being submitted for consideration.
All photographs must be submitted in JPEG format. Any files that are not submitted in this format will not be considered.
You must clearly state in the subject line of the email which photography category you are entering.
All photographs must be labelled clearly with code letter of the category they are entering plus photograph number and the entrants name.
Photographer of the Year: P
News Photographer of the Year: N
Sports Photographer of the Year: S
For example, if you are entering News Photographer of the Year, you would title the email News Photographer of the Year and attach your application form and three photos labelled: N1JaneMurphy, N2JaneMurphy, N3JaneMurphy.
T.V & FILM
All T.V and film categories can be entered through our online application form.
We recommend that files are hosted on Youtube or Vimeo. Please note: if you are sharing a private video in your application, you must include the password for the file in your entry and label it clearly.
All radio categories can be entered through our online application form.
Entrants will be able to attach the file containing their submission through this form. The specific details concerning this can be found on each category page.
Only files hosted on Soundcloud or Mixcloud can be accepted. Any files that are not submitted in this format will not be considered.
Please note: if you are sharing a private audio file in your application, you must include the password for the file in your entry and label it clearly.
‘Blog/Vlog Of The Year’ and ‘Website Of The Year’ can be entered through our online application form.
The ‘People’s Choice’ Award’ can be entered by all college publications, any person significantly involved in their college, any radio or tv station, or any student society who wish to enter.
Simply send an email to ‘email@example.com’ with your name, college and contact details. A poll will then be created will all entrants on Oxygen.ie after the closing date for entries.
