In a surprise move, Irish singer, skinhead and mentalist Sinead O’Connor has announced she is to run for the Republican Party nomination ahead of November’s Presidential election.

O’Connor revealed that she been inspired to run by the "diverse range" of crazy candidates in the race and hoped to bring Americans a message of "peace, hope and how to gain and maintain international recognition despite only being successful for one cover version."

Irish political commentator Myles Dungheap believes O’Connor’s move may not be as illogical as it first appears.

“Sinead has actually chosen quite cleverly here,” he said. “The Republican party appear to be on a hunt to find the biggest lunatic they can to lead them, and she’s certainly proven her nutjob credentials.

“Ripping up pictures of the Pope, slagging off Linda Martin on twitter then finding out she’d been hoaxed, going on the Late Late show to appeal for a ride, getting married and then divorced after 16 days and then undivorced again.

"This is the kind of wild behaviour that gets you great publicity in the states. She makes Sarah Palin look like a calm, reliable individual.

"She’s also not black which is a big plus to Republican bigots, I mean voters, though her lack of a penis may stand against her.

"She’ll appeal to the hardcore Christian Evangelicals with her anti-Pope credentials and ordination as a priest, all she has to do is start ripping up a few posters of Obama and calling him a devil-communist-muslim and she’s laughing."

Front-runner Mutt Romney questioned O'Connor's eligibility given her lack of US citizenship however newly emerged challenger Rick Sanitorium thanked God for her arrival, which was somewhat devalued by his 200+ heavenly shout-outs in the same day - not least praising the deity for the creation of Strawberry pop tarts.
