Review of Sensation

When I heard the title of this film, I didn’t know what I was getting myself in for, even watching the first scene I still wasn’t sure how this was going to go but as this film progressed I was holding my sides in laughter. Sensation is most definitely one of the best Irish comedy films I’ve seen this year.

Throughout the entire film, the typical Irish humour of innuendos, silliness and just plain being someone from the countryside keeps a smile on your face. The director, Tom Hall, really knows how to connect with his Irish audience, and this film is a must see for nights out with your friends.

Sensation
is set in a little country village in Tipperary. Domhnall Gleeson, son of Brendan, and better known as Bill Weasley, plays the main character, Donal, a socially awkward bachelor. His father has just died and bequeathed him a farm.

Still looking quite Weasley.

Kim the Kiwi.

Donal
, being the average modern day farmer's son, is not interested in farming, so he sells all the animals and is about to sell the farm for his greater passions in life; women and drink, when he meets Kim (played by Luanne Gordon), a Kiwi escort with an unusal business plan.

Donal has a load of money knocking around from the inheritence, so he makes the bold decision to become her partner, maybe in more ways than one. Kim takes Donal on a journey of self-discovery while she using his money for "self-improvement".

All this was kept quiet until the intervention of Donal's friend Karl (played by Patrick Ryan), a sponge, who lives on Donal's land. He becomes the security for the business, but seems to have ulterior motives where Kim is concerned.

Donal
buys a flat in a new apartment block in the town, but the neighbours aren’t happy with the illicit activities, and they get evicted. Donal goes back home and turns his house into a place of lies and deceit. But little do he and his friends know that the police are watching their every move!

If you’re looking for a film full of country Irish humour, some action and side splitting one liners, then grab your mates and get to the nearest theatre for this film. If you like innuendoes, this film will definitely give you one. Several, probably.

Sensation is full of surprises and really makes you wonder what goes on behind closed doors. See this if you liked The Guard, Once, or Irish films in general. Also The General. 7/10

Topless Ukraine activist grabs Euro Cup

(Reuters) - A Ukrainian women's rights activist stripped to the waist and seized the Euro-2012 soccer trophy while it was on public display in Kiev on Saturday in a protest against the forthcoming month-long championship.

The young woman, 23-year-old Yulia Kovpachik, is a member of the Kiev-based Femen women's rights group which believes the Euro-2012 soccer tournament being played in Ukraine next month will encourage sex tourism.

Kovpachik strode up to the silver, 60 centimeter (two feet) high trophy, which was on display as a tourist attraction in an open air exhibition in central Kiev, ostensibly to be photographed alongside it like hundreds of other sightseers.

But she then pulled down her red T-shirt to reveal the words "Fuck Euro 2012" scrawled on her torso. As she grabbed hold of the cup with both hands, she was seized by security guards, who appeared to have had advanced warning of the protest.

They covered her with a sheet and took her off to a waiting police car.

The protest appeared to be the first action in a campaign against the championship by Femen which regularly stages bare-breast protests in Ukraine - and sometimes beyond - to highlight what it sees as political injustice, social abuse and the exploitation of women in Ukraine.
