Remember Me

The big one all the Twi-hards *shudder* have probably been waiting for since the first appearance of Robert Pattinson into their lives less than 2 years ago. That’s not the nature of this film by any means, it’s trying to tell a small story about a young man and his proportionally insignificant life in NYC.

Tyler Hawkins is a 21-year-old student who comes from a family that have been affected by a family tragedy and as a result he is trying to do some soul searching with the help of his weasely room mate Aidan, played by Tate Ellington.

Aidan does nothing but supply alcoholic revelry; hence, lead him to getting slightly out of control and into trouble with the law and his hardnosed, entrepreneur father, performed soundly by Pierce Brosnan.

What could possibly put an end to his boisterous ways? A gash, well, a girl, well, one girl in particular and that girl is Allie Craig, played by Emilie De Ravin, also from a tragic background leading her to have an over-protective father family-life going on, moderately juxtaposed to Tyler’s situation.

Remember Me deals with the deep personal struggles of its characters, and their personal development as they attempt to deal with the loss they have endured.

The way in which the story works is very clever, it opens retrospectively which is always good for making the ending that bit unpredictable even though from the outset you get the general feeling of where the film is heading.

As well as dealing with personal problems, family matters and the general rough and tumble that goes with soul searching it also deals with the love facet by all means making this a romantic drama.

There have been quite a few films as of late dealing with the Americana of the noughties and this film certainly has flecks of this running throughout.

Reminiscent, in quality whilst dealing with the genre of romance, to 500 Days of Summer last year, this film does not disappoint. It moves at a good pace, it has substance and it leaves the appropriate word: “bollox”, at the end.

Remember Me will do well whether you decide to go see it or not thanks to the credit of Pattinson but he knew what he was doing when he signed onto this project. “It’s bleedin’ rapid.” – too nineties?! Ah well, ya get the idea.
