Iron Man 2 - ACDC soundtrack review

I was a bit sceptical seeing a soundtrack totally devoted to one band and one genre of music but from what I’ve heard of the film it works really well. Lets be honest a film about a superhero who has an Iron suit would work well with a Metal soundtrack.

The band describes themselves as Rock & Roll but could be easily fit into the Heavy Metal genre. AC/DC as we all know are a legendary Australian band started by Glaswegian brothers Malcolm and Angus Young in 1973. Funnily enough, they got their name off a sewing machine.

There are songs on this album from both AC/DC’s lead singers Geordie Brian Johnson and Bon Scott. The band has said they’re not going to do a best of album so this is as good as gets it in terms of a compilation of AC/DC songs.

If you’re a fan of AC/DC all the classic songs are there, Thunderstruck, T.N.T., Back In Black, Let There be Rock, Highway to Hell and even War Machine from their fairly recent album, Black Ice.

This album is a great soundtrack and is a good way for AC/DC to win new fans from the Iron Man films and in doing so reach out to a younger generation who wouldn’t know all their stuff. I don’t really care that some of these tracks are 30 years old AC/DC still rocks! If the soundtrack had of been made up of more modern music any of the Rock and Roll or Metal bands out there at the moment would have to admit they‘ve been influenced or even downright inspired by AC/DC’s music.

They made a video for Shoot to Thrill using footage from the Iron Man 2 film for this album that might be worth checking out online.

There are special editions of this album for sale so keep an eye out for the LP’s, Deluxe editions with DVD and the album with the Iron Man comic book. They might be worth something in the future if the gravy train that is the Marvel Iron Man films keeps steaming ahead.

It will be interesting to see what Jon Favreau will do for the third Iron Man soundtrack. Definitely a great album to have in your collection if you don’t have much AC/DC music and lets hope they keep making more new music.

AC/DC we salute you!

Miami named most miserable U.S. city

(Reuters) - Warm sun, white beaches, and million-dollar mansions notwithstanding, Miami has captured the dubious distinction of being the most miserable city in the United States, according to a new poll.

The playground of the rich and famous is home to a crippling housing crisis, one of the highest crime rates in the country, and lengthy daily commutes for workers, all of which have propelled it to the No. 1 position in the Forbes.com list.

"Miami has sun and beautiful weather but other things make people miserable. You have this two-tier society: glitzy South Beach attracts celebrities, but the income inequality has skyrocketed in recent years," explained Forbes Senior Editor Kurt Badenhausen.

The rankings are based on factors including jobless rates, violent crime, foreclosures, income and property taxes, as well as considerations like weather, commute time and political corruption.

Reeling for decades from the decline of the U.S. auto industry, Michigan's troubled duo of Detroit and Flint registered at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, among the most miserable cities.

"Detroit and Flint are struggling," said Badenhausen. "Violent crime is highest in the country in Detroit; housing prices are down 55 percent. Detroit is closing schools and laying off policemen. In recent years they have been demolishing houses to change their city landscapes"

West Palm Beach, Florida and Sacramento, California rounded out the top five cities.

"We're trying to judge cities where residents have a lot of complaints. It doesn't mean that there aren't terrific things there," he said.

And for the haves Miami's charms remain undiminished.

"The one percent in Miami is doing fantastic. But for the vast majority, who make less than $75,000 (a year), Miami can be a challenging place," he said. "Forty-seven percent of homeowners sit on underwater mortgages. That's tough."
