Inception is the complex story of a dream world within a dream, within a dream, within a dream, within a dream…actually cancel that last “within a dream”.
It has certainly proved itself to be this summer’s blockbuster with a vague trailer it enticed EVERYONE to the cinema but me only last Sunday!
This reviewer has a major issue with these kinds of films that get completely hyped to the point where one’s expectations are raised so high that they are only going to be disappointed – it’s why I am yet to see Avatar…though I probably should have seen that in the cinema…
Tremendously enough Inception will not let you down – it has a great concept with a brilliantly complex story that has a wonderful look to it.
Leonardo DiCaprio stars as Cobb, a father who has an obsession with entering his dreams so he can connect with his dead wife. He also has the ability to manipulate people’s minds so that their dreams will affect their decisions.
He must influence Cillian Murphy’s character; Robert Fischer, so that he can make it back home to his children and put behind him the memories of his deceased wife.
This film has been terrifically cast and sees all star performances from Juno’s Ellen Page and 500 Days of Summer's Joseph Gordon Levitt as well as Michael Caine and Cillian Murphy, mentioned above, and of course DiCaprio, who can sometimes be criticised for being too dramatic but not here, holds the film together magnificently.
There may be times when the film wanes a little and becomes, for want of a better word, somewhat boring as one may find themselves getting lost within the dream worlds displayed on screen.
This is made up for by the interesting manipulation of some of these worlds that Ellen Page’s character Ariadne, an architect, carries out.
Overall all this film is full of suspense, drama and a complex storyline that will entertain you for the 148-minutes that which it runs. Believe the hype because this is bound to do well come award time.
