Marina And The Diamonds The Family Jewels review

Marina Lambrini Diamandis is the lady behind the album The Family Jewels which has jumped on the band wagon of modern-female-pop-act-with-band/new wave genre that has recently been made popular by acts such as La Roux and Florence And The Machine.

There is a great mood set within this album because the songs featured are electronically based up-tempo melodies and synth ballads with strong female vocals…prepare to see Marina And The Diamonds on the festival circuit this summer season.

Florence And The Machine immediately rings bells in your head when you hear the name Marina And The Diamonds – the name is worryingly similar but fear not, the “Diamonds” are Marina’s fans not her support band. On her website she posts her blogs to “my diamonds” which is all very nice and sparkly.

Shampain is a great track with a strong upbeat vocals mixed with synthy melodies that make ya want to move from side to side in time with the music, it’s contains very much off her face Lisa Simpson “I can feel the music” kind of vibes – no illicit drugs required!

The Outsider is a stand out track on the album; basically, it’s the funkay beats that kick in after Marina’s powerful vocals that ring out at the start of the song along with the piano melody during the song’s break that make the song.

The opening track Are You Satisfied asks us whether or not we are satisfied with our lives, simply put but sets Marina’s album up nicely explaining how the album is very much her coming to terms of her career because it contains lyrics explaining that she got her record deal.

Hollywood and I Am Not A Robot are also most certainly worth a listen.

Marina And The Diamonds rose to fame after reaching number two on the BBC Sound of 2010 poll list, coming second to Ellie Goulding and if you’re lucky enough to have tickets to her sold-out Irish tour date you’ll be enjoying her in Tripod, Dublin on May 27th.

If she manages to appear on the line up for Oxegen or Electric Picnic the stage she’ll be playing on will surely be worth a visit, otherwise, get hiking over to the European festivals.
