Flight Of The Conchords review

Flight Of The Conchords secured their own show with the US channel HBO show in 2007 and became globally known as “New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo.”

They are hilarious so it came as no surprise when they apparently sold out two nights in Dublin’s Olympia Theatre in 11 seconds. I was lucky enough to secure a ticket through a friend and was looking forward to it long before they set foot in the country.

Irish Comedian David O’ Doherty was the support act for the Conchords and he was absolutely side-splittingly funny. He sang a song at the start and end of his set using his trademark 1980’s childrens keyboard complete with demo song.

He wasn’t on stage for long as I would have liked but if you’d like to see him soon you can do in Dublin’s Vicar Street on Saturday May 15th for what will no doubt be a fantastic gig.

The Flight Of The Conchords were on stage for the full two hours so everyone really was getting their moneys worth. They played classics such as Business Time, Jenny, The Humans Are Dead and the always hilarious to hear Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros all played in their utterly hilarious way.

The one criticism I have about the show is that their chitchat in between songs was down to an absolute minimum at times to the point where it became a joke that they were boring but by the third silent void it was actually beginning to be genuinely boring.

The show at one point featured a most amusing costume change which then involved an even funnier change back into their original clothes and they allegedly featured New Zealand’s Symphony Orchestra in their show which by the time the curtain closed and the encores were over made it a great experience and everyone seemed to leave with a smile on their face!

Don’t forget David Doherty’s show on Saturday 15th May at Vicar Street or enter our competition for free tickets to the gig at the following link
