Fine Gael leader and prospective Taoiseach Enda Kenny has faced further charges of political cowardice as it emerged that election posters in his Mayo constituency fail to carry either his picture or name, apparently in an attempt to avoid ‘putting off’ voters.

The posters (above right) ask the electorate to ‘Vote Blueshirt’ and support candidate ‘A.N Other’ in order to discover the politician’s name on election day.

Fine Gael election consultant Gann C. Gorm denied the posters were an attempt to sidestep Kenny’s perceived lack of charisma and connection with voters, instead saying they were ‘a quite ingenious pr strategy’.

“It’s brilliant actually,” said Gorm. “I came up with the idea myself. It’ll really allow Enda to build suspense for Gaa supporters and fascists, you know our key demographic. Imagine how surprised they’ll be when they see the voting slip and A.N. Other turns out to be the next Taoiseach!

“ I’ve certainly justified my large fee and earned a place on the board of a quango. Not that there’ll be any once we fulfil our election promises. Errmm..

Kenny first attracted negative publicity after dodging a television debate with Labour’s Eamoan Gilmore and Fianna Failure’s Micheal 'Call me Mickey' Martin on TV3 earlier this week, through the clever technique of pretending to still be mad at Vincent Browne for flippant comments made (and apologised for) last October.

When Browne offered to step aside as chair of the debate however, our brave future leader decided it was more important to address 6 people and a sheep in Ireland’s least populated county of Leitrim rather than broadcast his views to potentially millions of the electorate.

The Fine Gael leader has however agreed to take part in a five-way leaders debate on TV3. Why is that different?

“It’s simple really,” explained Gorm. “Even if Enda’s out-jawed by Gilmore and Martin it’s fairly likely the Greens and Sinn Fein will make him look good.

“All we need is Gerry Adams to propose a protestant tax or John Gormley to suggest government grants for smiling at the homeless and we’re laughing.”
