Some editors have expressed their concern about the fairness of the Newspaper of the Year and Editor of the Year categories.

We understand that some publications have more funding than others, and are therefore able to do more with their paper than those who run a voluntary ship.

So, with your guys’ best interest at heart, we’ve changed the rule for anyone entering Newspaper of the Year or Editor of the Year. You must submit a one page profile stating what sort of resources you have, whether you have paid or voluntary staff, and whether the paper receives funding.

However, it will ultimately still be up to the judges as to how much this will influence their decision. But we care about all of our entrants and want them to be sure that the Smedias 2016 team are doing their best to keep the awards process as fair as we possibly can.

SPREAD THE WORD, EDS!
